Colourful fabrics from the Bill Quay Fabric Workshop on the banks of the River Tyne.
Inspired by the local landscape, by the ways of the world and the ingenuity of pattern makers across continents and time the workshop takes a colourful look at life and translates it on to cloth. The techniques used are low-tech, hands-on and versatile.
Resourcefulness and redemption are the contingency plan so every piece is unique - we never consign a piece of work to the bin! As a result diverse remnants and trimmings are saved, stored and recycled as part of the making of our printed fabrics which will occasionally re-emerge as objects in their own right. A recovered chair, a quilt, or just as a patch.
